Why is the SMS service closing?
The SMS services offered by Weathercall and Marinecall have substantially reduced in popularity over time. Ongoing feedback tells us that you prefer weather forecasts to contain as much detail as possible, but an SMS forecast is technically restricted to containing only 160 characters, therefore potentially lacking in sufficient detail required to justify the cost of the forecast - especially when competing against free information on the internet. The service has also proven to be somewhat problematic both in terms of the update of the information, area coverage and handset compatibility. We believe that this service no longer represents the quality and value-for-money that we strive to offer to our customers, so the decision has been made to withdraw SMS from the portfolio of services.
Are there any alternative services for you to use?
There are no other SMS services offered by Weathercall, Marinecall or the Met Office, but there are other ways to obtain a weather forecast.
